There's real hope — no matter how long you've struggled

Acne is a skin condition involving plugged pores, inflamed pimples, and deeper lumps and cysts. It affects teens and adults alike — and left untreated, it can cause permanent scarring. At ExpressCare Guam, Dr. Lom has been treating acne since 2004 and offers a full spectrum of options, from entry-level topicals to Accutane and laser resurfacing.

Effective acne management is typically an ongoing process over at least 2–3 months, depending on your skin type and the severity of your condition. Dr. Lom will evaluate your acne at your first visit and build a personalized treatment plan.

Treatment options

Topical treatments

Prescription creams, gels, and lotions containing vitamin A derivatives, benzoyl peroxide, or topical antibiotics are often the first line of treatment. For mild to moderate acne, these can be highly effective when used consistently.

We also offer in-clinic procedures including microdermabrasion, chemical peels with glycolic acid, and corticosteroid injections for individual inflamed pimples ($39 per injection).

Laser & light therapy

For stubborn or inflammatory acne, we offer IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), Medlite Q-switch Nd:Yag laser, and photodynamic therapy using blue light wavelengths. These treatments target acne bacteria and inflammation below the skin surface.

Oral medications

When topicals aren't enough, oral antibiotics such as tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or erythromycin may be prescribed. For female patients, certain birth control pills can also improve acne.

For severe or cystic acne, isotretinoin (Accutane) is available. Due to its potency, strict guidelines — including pregnancy prevention protocols — apply. Dr. Lom will walk you through the requirements at your consultation.

Treating acne scars

Clearing active acne is step one — but if you have scarring from past breakouts, several effective options can restore smoother skin. These are typically done after acne is under control.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing
$999 face · $599 cheeks
The most effective option for deep acne scars. Removes outer skin layers and stimulates collagen.
Microdermabrasion
$125
Gentle resurfacing for mild surface scarring and uneven texture.
Dermal Fillers (Restylane)
from $550
Fills depressed or pitted scars for an immediately smoother appearance.
Medical Needling
$300/session
Stimulates collagen remodeling for atrophic (sunken) scars with minimal recovery time.

Common questions

How long does it take to see results?
Most acne treatments require at least 2–3 months of consistent use before significant improvement is visible. Pimple injections work within 24–48 hours for individual spots. Dr. Lom will set realistic expectations at your consultation.
Is Accutane safe?
Accutane (isotretinoin) is highly effective for severe acne but requires careful monitoring. It is not safe during pregnancy. Dr. Lom follows all required safety protocols and will guide you through the process if Accutane is the right choice for you.
Can adults get acne treatment?
Absolutely. Adult acne is very common, particularly in women. The same range of treatments is available regardless of your age.
Do I need an appointment?
